Gordon Sands and Sandie

Gordon Sands was born and raised in Victoria B.C. and joined the Naval Reserves in 1973. In 1974 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces serving with 1 Battalion PPCLI until 1980. Gordon’s military career was followed by 26 years with the Calgary Police Service, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. The highlights of his career include youth work, helping to start a Peer Support Team (CISM) program, and working with his wife to help start a spousal support program. He was a founding member of the Police Ceremonial Unit, received a Deputy Chief’s Commendation and 15 Senior Officer’s compliments. Gordon has served on the Board of Directors of the Naval Museum of Alberta Society, volunteered in multiple leadership roles with Scouting for over twenty years and was a member of the Devon Youth Justice committee. Gordon served as Executive Director for Leduc Victim Services and worked with RCMP members to provide CISM support. He serves as a RCMP Volunteer Coordinator and attends community events with his Service Dog “Sandie” to raise awareness of PTSD and the need for support. An active member of his church, Gordon has been married for over 42 years and cherishes his wife as his best friend and eternal companion.
